Condition Overview
This problem occurs when small emboli of disc material break off and block spinal cord blood vessels. This problem is seen more often in large to giant breed dogs, but also Shetland Sheepdogs and miniature Schnauzers.
Symptoms
Dogs often show a short period of pain followed by weakness ranging from mild ataxia to paralysis. Signs may be on only one side.

please help - my cockapoo is 16 yrs, has cataracts. Under her right eye she gets a slow collection of blood till it bursts, the hemorrhage consists if about an oz. of blood, this has happened twice in a 1 1/2 wk. period, otherwise she seems okay. Put compresses of salty water?
