Condition Overview
This is a condition involving the Nictitating Membrane or the "third eyelid". An opaque third eyelid, normally not seen, may become visible across the fron of the eye, in which case the nictitating membrane is protruding.
Symptoms
A reddish colored membrane pulling over the eyeball. This membrane is most readily seen while dogs are sleeping.

Diagnosis
Diagnosis is made by physical examination.
Treatment
Surgery to remove the third eyelid is the only way to treat this condition. However, it is not recommended since there is no physical benefit to the dog.

There is no known prevention for this condition.
