This protozoan infection is caused by a species of trichomonas often associated with mucoid (and occasionally bloody) diarrhea in
Prolonged trichomoniasis infection leads to weak, debilitated, stunted puppies with rough coats.
Trichomoniasis is commonly found in association with poor kennel sanitation.
The diagnosis is made by finding protozoan cysts in fresh stool.
The infection responds well to Flagyl (metronidazole).
Keep all kennels clean and free of feces.
