The PetSafe Outdoor Bark Control Unit

Author: Wiki Pet

Pet Training Product Reviews
PetSafe Outdoor Bark Control
Manufacturer documentation: Stop outdoor nuisance barking with a decorative touch. The PetSafe™ Outdoor Bark Control unit looks like any ordinary birdhouse and can be hung or mounted to a tree, a wall or fence post to keep your dog or your neighbor's dog from barking. The unit emits a high-pitched, ultrasonic sound that will stop barking up to 50 feet away. When in range, an internal microphone picks up the sound of constant barking and activates the unit. It emits an ultrasonic sound that can only be heard by dogs, who will be startled by the high-pitched sound and associate their bark with the unpleasant noise. The unit has four settings including three sensitivity levels and a test mode. Safe and effective for all sizes and breeds of dogs. For outdoor use only.

Product Features:

  • Uses ultrasonic sound to deter nuisance barking
  • Detects bark up to 50 feet away
  • Three range settings
  • Four levels of operation including a test mode
  • Durable and weatherproof for outdoor use
  • Two color LED for good/low battery indication
  • Uses a common 9-volt Alkaline battery (not included)
  • Manufacturer offers a lifetime limited warranty

If your pet, or a neighbors pet happens to be a bit barky, you may want to consider this creative twist on outdoor bark control. I can't think of a more common or better fitting outdoor item that could be used to hide such a device!

I have a noisy neighbor dog and decided to test out the effectiveness of the PetSafe Outdoor Bark Control. My expectations were set relatively low for this test, since I didn't expect to see a reduction in barking from a wireless device like this to work. I read the directions (as you should whenever using corrective devices such as this) and headed outside to get to work.

I arranged the birdhouse on a nearby garbage can and placed the in-conspicuous device on top. I decided to turn the bark stopper to level three due to the distance (about 40 feet) from the after reading the instructions on its use. I pointed it toward the neighbor's yard about and quickly went inside the house.

It took less than 2 minutes for the dog to stop barking, and I was amazed. I actually went outside to see if the neighbors had let him in the house, and sure enough, the dog was still outside.

Conclusion

If you are in need of an outdoor bark control product, this is the way to go. I have had wonderful success with the Outdoor Bark Control Product from PetSafe and would recommend it to anyone. Designed as a convincing bird house, it would be hard for someone to tell that this was actually a bark control device, especially a noisy neighbor.

Keep in mind that the sonic noise that is emitted from the device when activated will disrupt any pets within the 50-60 ft quoted operating range. If you have a kennel or other group housing situation for your pets, this is not the way to go to control barking. Every dog within the effective range will be corrected, regardless of their contribution to the noise making.

I've had some experience with these bark suppressing units, and i am really happy with their performance. The birdhouse hides the unit nicely in my tree too =^)

My neighbour has three barking dogs. I got the house bird and installed on my fence looking at them. There is a 90 per cent control along the day but as soon as night comes they start barking louder each passing time! What is it happening? I can not sleep and my neighbor does not care for her dogs.

First, make sure you have your unit turned on High. Also check your range. These units are only effective for a certain distance. if you are within city limits, you may be able to call the city directly and submit a noise complaint since the excessive barking is happening at night. I don't know if another bark controller (set up in so that the sound waves cross each other as they get into the neighbors yard) will help at all.. if you think it might, you may want to consider placing one at the front of the yard pointing out to the back, and another in the back of the yard pointing forward.
